How to Draw a Palm Tree. Clipart Simplified using Affinity Designer. Create Summer Art.

Everyone this is juno with detour shirts in this video i’m going to show you how to draw this simple palm tree let’s go Okay here we are um this is uh the palm tree i’m gonna show you how to draw but first for those of you new to the channel my name is juna i’m a graphic designer and and online t-shirt seller my channel is all about helping you design and sell t-shirts online

Your own clip art and so being that it’s summer and summer time i thought i would teach you how to draw this simple palm tree um nothing really fancy if you follow me on instagram you might have seen a post where i show you how to do this in

In kind of a carousel thing on on instagram um so i’m going to show you how to do it here in affinity designer and and stay tuned to the end because i’m gonna show you some of the shirts that are uh have very low bsrs on amazon

With palm trees so that you can use some of these palm trees that you’re gonna make now and make t-shirts maybe something like this on this side right here so um all right let’s get going i’m here in an affinity designer what we’re going to do first is we’re going to draw some

Guidelines and you can make your palm tree any size you want it’s not going to be exactly like this one but what you’re going to do is draw the trunk first and so i’m just going to draw a line here just using the pen tool here um

Let me do that again for those of you i think i was doing it too fast so grab the pen tool here um start up here click and click down and kind of drag you know the palm trees kind of the ones i like to draw are kind of

Curvy like that so we’ll just draw a long line there and make sure your stroke here is black or it could be blue let’s actually let’s do blue like a cyan 100 cyan and the stroke you kind of want to see it so let’s make it just a little thicker i’m

Going one point stroke here all right so that’s it that will be your trunk um and then we’re going to just draw six branches just just the outline right so click here on the middle and kind of curve it out like that that’s all we want to do so

Do do uh six of those we’ll do start from the middle here of the tree and kind of come out here um there’s no way to do this wrong um and then just bend the in the line here so let’s do that again here can i curve it up

See what i’m doing just just free handing it here so the next branch could come up something like that kind of just curve it okay next one maybe it comes out to here curve it okay last one here this one maybe it like droops down like this now you

Can always play around with it like use your um this is i believe this is called the node tool or i like to call it the white arrow where you can just pick the points right and just move it around so this is jus these are just guides if you want the i

Kind of like the the middle branch to go out a little more than the top and um bottom branches so just when you think you have kind of like a and it kind of looks like a spider here at the top um just move it here so these are just

Guides right so i can move them around so once you have your kind of your tree your palm tree look that you want to do that’s going to be your guide so the next step is we want to actually make it wider so let’s do the trunk first so the trunk starts off

Um smaller at the top and wider at the bottom right if you’ve seen a palm tree so we’re going to start there kind of follow the curves of your guideline here and go out and then hold down shift to make it straight and then we’re going to curve it back in here

And then click here and then close it off so you see what we did here we kind of followed we used that trunk as a guide of how to curve it right and then we’re just moving moving these lines here to make it wider on the bottom you see

It’s wider at the bottom and not as wide at the top right good so now that we got the trunk we can get rid of the guides but um we’ll just fill in that color now um instead of a stroke we’ll fill it we can click on that to fill and let’s just

Fill it with black here i like doing just a hundred hundred hundred black there you go so you can see that’s the trunk so the next thing we wanna do i’m gonna zoom in here is the leaves so we’re gonna come in now the leaves are kind of more of a triangle

Shape like this right you see how it comes out and then goes back in so it starts in out and in what we’re going to do is we’re going to add just a little bit more to it so we’re going to start in kind of in not exactly at that point

We’re going to come out you see how that’s curving so we follow the curve let me show you that again comes out curving following that curve on the branch there and then we’re going to hit control like that so that we can click out of that curve and coming in

Just a little bit and then come back to that point so use that end point of the branch that you made as a guide for your end so and then we do the opposite so we’re going to come back out just a little bit hit control on that dot so we don’t have

That curve coming back at you and then go out just a little bit and then come back in and curve it just like the branch there does that make sense and then um then connect those two i’m going to hit ctrl again to take away that curve

There you see how that branch looks so we can still move these curves again just just to move it a little bit if this isn’t right on the dot we can move that like that see see what i’m doing and then we can fill that in too right

So that’s how we do a branch let me not fill it i’m going to just use the um click on it again and then do the stroke so you can see the stroke so what what’s an easy way to do it now that you’ve done one branch

Is to kind of copy that branch and kind of turn it just use that as a guide um now and then we want to flip it on this side here you see what i did here when i flipped it um just kind of eyeball it we’re moving around with the

Turning it here turning it here and we’re going to use those as guides too so let’s take our white um arrow and move these so that it makes sense so we’re we’re coming out here um using this as a guide this comes in here right kind of just moving these curves so they

Follow the the curves of the um of the branch that we have the guides that we have underneath right we can do that comes here this kind of curves this way this curves this way does that make sense here look oh this one’s kind of messed up so let’s use that curve here

See how i’m stretching that point and curving it trying to match that curve that we had as a guide here for the branch right so we can do that with all the other ones so now that we have all our leaves the way that we want it to look

Um let’s say we want to stop right there and you can keep playing with it until you get it right now that we got it there let’s fill these in um we can just select all and take out those remove that line fill it in with black

Oh and now it’s filling in that line let me whoops let’s take out whoa whoa what happened let’s take out those guides i think that’s gonna mess us up when we fill so let’s go back and select those blue lines just to blow lines and that blue line that was there

Now we’ll fill it with black and you may notice there’s a hole here so you just take your pen tool and kind of fill in the gaps whoops let me do that and fill that with black and there i mean it’s not exactly what i had here whoops what happened there

Looks like that needed a to be fixed too we’ll conf we can fill that in too boom right so you can see they’re different they’re not exactly the same and you can keep playing with it if you want but there’s your palm tree they’re really simple and of course

You can change the now that this is a vector like you can take these two lines and if you wanted a taller tree and wanted it to do that way or if you want your tree to you know not be so curvy or maybe you want it to curve another way you got

These bezier curves maybe you want it kind of a s palm tree i mean that’s kind of cool right so and then you can take your leaves you know make them bigger if you want make them come out maybe you want this one to be a little longer right

So that’s it that’s that’s how you do a really simple palm tree and then you can just add those palm trees together and some kind of thing like this with a sunset um i told you at the end of the video we’re gonna look at some of the

Palm tree designs that are on amazon so let’s go to amazon now and i’ll show you what what we can find where you can kind of ideas that you can create with these palm trees and what kind of t-shirts you can make okay so here we are on amazon just real

Quick um to end this video just wanted to show you that you know there are a lot of palm tree design t-shirts that are selling here on amazon you can just do a sunset uh you can do some funny phrases like this nobody likes a shady beach cocktails and palm trees like

Beach beach me that’s funny um some other goal here i mean of course you need to check uh trademarks make sure some of these aren’t trademark i think life’s a beach might be but look santa by palm tree like the sunset with the palm trees really popular it’s one o’clock somewhere

Like maui hawaii like you can do even iowa like they may not have palm trees but that’s really funny right um son of a beach let’s see um we talked about if you followed uh seen one of my other videos i talked about some of the

Funny summer pun t-shirts so if we just do funny summer t-shirts you know here’s how you kind of brainstorm let’s look for things that have palm trees uh well not very many palm trees in this one oh sunshine right there oh where my beach is at of course that was in the

Video we saw um how about about more specifically you know there’s palm trees at the beach so what about funny beach shirts you know there’s some funny beach stuff here all the beaches um vacation modes shady beach bring on the sunshine so you can see a lot of um these summer

Shirts have a palm tree on it so i mean brainstorm you don’t even have to use words you could use just a graphic and a thing or make up your own words that either is funny or pun or you know so lots of good things here

Um on amazon and of course if you’re not selling on amazon you can sell palm tree shirts on any of those pod sites so good luck with that um this i think palm trees are really important if you’re gonna do some summer themed shirts so now that you have a palm tree
