Hey everyone this is juno with detour shirts in this video i’m going to teach you how to draw a cassette tape with a fin of the designer let’s go We’re gonna be drawing this today um so you can see this is all vectors um except for maybe this is text right here um but everything else we’re doing in vectors i’m just gonna use the pen tool some eclipse tool and things like that so
All right so here we are um i’m gonna zoom out here this is what we’re going for right here i’ll show you how how i did it step by step so you can follow along you can probably do this in illustrator as well the affinity designer is really similar to to illustrator
There are some little differences but you can follow along so what we’re going to do here is first do this rectangle tool right here um it’s a round rectangle tool i’m going to make it about the same size as we make it here so we can kind of copy
You can take this edge this dot here and kind of you know drag it up and down to see the curves there you see that or you could use this up here um and do the same thing this both does the same thing this is the corner
Tool i’m just going to do maybe a five percent corner maybe six i don’t know it doesn’t really matter that much and then i’m gonna color it the inside of white here and i’m gonna give the stroke black i like to use like full black so i’m just gonna do a hundred
All the way and then for my stroke um depending on the size you make i’m making this size i’m gonna do two you know two point stroke here so that’s going to be the outside of the cassette here you can see kind of matching it up and then i’m
Going to just hold down option and drag and that’s going to copy that shape same shape and i’m going to make the inside shape here i think i’m actually a little too long so let me bring it in here and to make sure these two are aligned
To the center you go up here see alignment click on that and click on align center so now these two are aligned perfectly in the center the next thing i’m going to do is is make this middle part here so we’re going to do the same um option drag
You know drag this in here we’re going to align this to the center as well but i just want to make kind of eyeballing it um i’m going to make the corners just a little bit bigger on here so i’m going to use a nine or more let’s see
1920 we’ll see how that works um i’m gonna fill it with black instead and not do an outline so i’ll take that out boom come on out um bring it in kind of eyeballing it right there’s no no rules here i’m just kind of making it want to look
Like it i think that corner actually is too much so let me go back down to 10 take a look at it yeah that looks great option drag again for the inside i’m going to make this one white instead of black so you’ll see what i’m doing here
Bring it in see how i’m doing that okay so now when i select all of these four rectangles and hit align center they’re going to align like that um okay so the next thing we want to do is do these circles and i may have not made this big enough to fit the
Circle and we can adjust that later but i’m just going to do a circle here holding down shift will give you a perfect circle you see those inches the width and the height are the same and i’m going to make the the stroke white but the fill
None and when you see that up here you’ll see it does it right there holding down shift again to make sure that they’re the same size the stroke i’m going to make it three instead of two just to make it a little thicker maybe three and a half let’s try that four
No three and a half yeah that looks about right so you can see right now um i’m not i didn’t give myself enough space here so let’s i’m gonna move this out okay so that’s the first circle here and to get these notches in there i’m gonna
Zoom in and just use the pen tool here i’m gonna click and click and that will give me one of them i’m gonna bring it in here now you wanna make sure these two are kind of aligned to center but this way align vertically to the middle there
And i believe it’s not as thick so let’s go down to you know three maybe two and a half there okay so what we want to do is now we want to rotate this 60 degrees why 60 degrees because we have 6 of them here and 360 divided by
6 is 60. so we’re going to grab this um this right here is enable transform origin so right now the if i duplicate it it would transform around that but what we want to do is transform it around the circle the middle of the circle so
You see how i move that kind of in the middle there and if i’m going to copy it i can do a command v which makes a copy of it and down here in the rotate tool i’ll do 60 and oops 60 and hit return
Oh i guess i didn’t copy it whoops copy v 60 boom right and then we do it again um so this is one way you can do it copy b and the 60 plus 60 is 120 boom it’s looking like it’s a little high i didn’t do it that high so i’m
Going to go back some do that i think i went out too far let’s i made two copies there let’s just go up that far instead and move this this guy still needs to be in the middle right so i’m going to command c command v to copy see it’s right there
And then i do 60. yeah that’s looking better so i’m going to do that again and the 60 plus 6 is 120 there’s an easier way to do this but i’m just doing the other way 160 plus 120 plus 60 is 180 whoops 180 here boom and once you get this you can
Actually instead of rotating it around i’m going to show you another trick you can i’m doing option shift to copy it and then i’m going to flip it here to flip vertical you see that there you go just eyeballing it right it looks a little different than this one but that’s okay
You can make it thinner or thicker like if we did these if we did these a little thinner it probably would look more similar i think i i might have used the two let’s see two yeah that looks better yeah that looks way better so you just kind of play around with it
Right so now that you got one of them we’ll select all these and the circle right and just just group it command g is group and then we’ll just copy it again command shift uh option shift let’s do that again option shift drag right okay so let’s uh let’s make some space
For this again and let’s make sure these are all aligned again so i’m gonna copy all of these not the circles we’ll we’ll fill that in later and align center there we can see that it that’s more of aligned whoops grabbing this one kind of eyeballing it here okay so the
Only few things we’re missing is this we can use the pen tool we kind of start here um just drag it down kind of about the center and then click there so that needs to be black though instead of white so we’ll just grab that black here i like using again
All black here that’s kind of just eyeballing it right and once you have one of them here you can flip it right so click it option shift drag turn that around right perfect so next thing i want to do is do this trapezoid here that’s basically this rectangle
Right so i’ll do the rectangle here um just make sure it’s aligned to the bottom here you can eyeball it or you can do this align bottom so this is a rectangle but if you convert this to curves here see how i did that now when i use this white tool
White uh arrow it is the node tool you can select the point and just kind of go in so i’m hitting um clicking and then hitting my arrow to tool with shift which will move it 10 pixels uh 1 2 so i moved it 20 there see
So just kind of eyeballing it um if you want it higher of course you can just drag it a little higher that’s it right oh and this should be aligned as well so you know you can always check go back and check this and this aligned there
Okay so now we just got some circles left that should be real easy so we got our circle tool here just make a little circle here holding down shift again to make it a perfect circle right and then option shift you guys should know this by now option shift and drag
Grab these two option shift and drag down here you got those four now we’re gonna make these uh circles for the other two um perfect circle again holding down shift just eyeballing it about that big right and then the other circle is kind of in like this now once you got those
Let me just zoom in here um they might be too big let me once you got that around where you want it to be what i would do just because the other side is the same kind of a mirror image of that what i would do is grab both option shift drag
And then flip it here with the flip horizontal right and kind of just move it to the right space you can see that i think i used a thinner stroke here let me check yeah that’s 1.5 this is two so let’s just do 1.5 so easy just easy like that right
So mine my ended up this version ended up being a little longer again we’re just eyeballing it here so the way to color it let me move it over here so we can match the colors you can see it’s just white now whoops let me increase this art board
All right so for the color i just did these lines here um and they’re just straight straight lines so i did the back here like this i use the color right um let’s just pick that color i use that kind of a light orange um
And i just put it behind so these you can see in your in your board if you just do this right here back one and keep hitting it eventually i’ll be behind that black right here and then all you have to do is move the edges
To that right so very simple to add more colors just have to make a space this color here which is another color boom this color here another color boom so what got tricky was this last one here because it has a um you can see here it’s not straight it’s a corner so
Remember our corners we can go here around the corners um maybe lift this up a little bit make sure that it’s the right size corner so you can see how that is matching up i made it this color boom and all i did was put this in the front
So we’ll move that in the front a little bit now of course you’re going to have to play with like the size like you know just to make them even and then the last one of course you could do black as well um with a different corner or you could just instead of
White here this has a white background i think you can just make it black right so there’s that right there um this this was a little higher so you can see how he did that and my text here is just um i’m going to pull that in the front you can type it
But it’s just using this font right here lullaby’s regular 18 point um just just to give it that handwritten look like you would write it on a cassette tape so that’s it guys that was simple right so that’s how you create a mix tape or a cassette tape
