How to Design a TShirt #4 | Life Is Better at the Lake Line Drawing Shirt using Affinity Designer

Today I’m in an affinity designer you may notice this it looks this it’s very similar to illustrator for those that don’t have a affinity designer but we’re gonna design this or create this design I notice earlier this week or last week depending on when you watch this video

Actually could be a lot earlier but I noticed this was trending life is better at the lake probably because people are going to the lake or to the beach now now that it’s summer so we’re gonna design this I’m gonna show you how I did it it’s very easy I’m only using one

Font here so I’ll show you what that font is I’ll click here and type in the word Lake and when I go to my fonts here I’m gonna scroll down and it is called thirsty soft whoops I’m gonna click on it sometimes it happens it’s called thirsty soft here

And there’s different versions this is light you can see medium and bold I used Extra Bold here and I just made it a little bigger so you can grab the edges here and just do that and what I like to do is hold down option and then

Drag these here I’m gonna take an act and and I noticed that Lake here this is how I started Lake has this K here and it’s a nice space to put in little words here so I just fit this in here like that and I made the the same size

Actually it’d be easier if I just get rid of that type it again uh that’s kind of how I came up with that together you know maybe make it a little smaller hold both of them – now down together yeah yeah I’m like in that and

Then the second thing I did life is better let me just type that in life is better I did it on a on a curve here and here’s an easy way to do the curve I’m using my ellipse tool here and just do it lips like that I’m going no color

Here actually let’s do this so you can see the line there doesn’t have to be that color I just put some color there so you can grab it I’m gonna copy this highlight this hit command C and copy and then you see as I’m over the ellipse

Here it turns to a tee with like a squiggly line so a there is for text but when you see that T for the squiggly line that means you’re on the ED lips or on the shape you just click on it there and hit command V pasting your text in I

Know that’s too big so I’m gonna make it smaller and then I’m gonna take these anchor points here and fold them to the side so kind of centering them and then I Center that I know we can play around with the size I’m gonna say a 32 seems

About right and then we can play around with this right here you see how that kind of makes it a little more I have an arc or less arc so I’m gonna just do about like that and then let me zoom in here you’ll notice kind of the tracking

Is a little off where the kerning is a little off not tracking the so you hit option and then the back arrow button and kind of hit back so again with that and without option you can move through it see back and forth this is back and

Forth I’m gonna move that as little closer no right there it was good with this tea here so I’m just moving it closer so that it matches yeah it’s pretty good all right let me zoom back out so that is our text here make sure I

Move that to the back so does it all right so next thing we’re gonna do is draw these mountains so I’m just gonna use the pen tool here now if you hold down shift you’ll notice it makes a straight line so I want a straight line

Here and then just gonna click up here and click down here and a straight line again now we want this to be black not blue so I’m clicking the these colors making it a hundred percent CMYK black I’m gonna take these two here and kind

Of drag it down make sure it’s the right you know right there there other than too hard with it move this like that now I can use the pen tool again to draw another mountain so I’m gonna do that can I give it the same angle kind of

Eyeball it I’m not you know but you want to just do the same angle pretty good right so if we zoom in here just make sure that it’s over sure this is here like that great got our mountain so the next thing for it we want to do

Is that Sun I’m using you’ll notice here on the stroke I’m using a four point so I want to make sure they’re all using that four point so if you hold down shift the circle it’s a perfect circle if not it’ll be more like an oval so I’m

Holding down shift so I just want to put it in the back here kind of like that where it touches what I’m trying to do is have it touch this mountain and this mountain right well you’ll notice um I don’t have a fill back there so I need

To like just cut it off I wanted to go behind the mountain but there’s nothing in the mountain that’s cutting it off so what I’m gonna do is I’m gonna change this I’m gonna convert this to a stroke expand stroke so you see now that’s a shape it’s not a stroke

And then I’m gonna use my pen tool and kind of do the mountain again see what I’m doing here and then I’ll put this in the front so you can see I’m gonna add a color to it so you’ll see that’s actually in front now of my circle that I made here and

I’m gonna knock not the front shape out from the back and you’ll see what happens I’m using this subtract right here and that’s what that’s kind of what we wanted right that’s showing behind all right so let’s draw some trees I’m gonna do a bigger tree here holding down

Shift again you want black and four-point just make sure right we were using the same ones and then for the trees all I’m doing is instead of making it straight like this I’m giving it like a curve so I’m starting here and I’m just pulling that Bezier curve just a

Little bit like that just to give it a little different look let me get it closed right there so when you have two like this you can copy it I just held down shift I might have gone too fast here hold down option and shift and drag

It so I just made a copy here and then I’m gonna use this flip horizontal and do there I’m just gonna grab both of these now and pull it down again I’m holding down option and shift and I’m pulling it down right so there’s one

Tree there you know I made it a little different let’s make the make it closer I think I did it closer last time just eyeballing it here again right there’s three and so I’m just gonna copy this now and make a shorter tree out of it

I’ll do those three hold this down oh sure – tree easy ha alright so the hard part is gonna be these waves here now there’s gonna we’re gonna need some it’s not math but we’re gonna use some geometry I guess for it so let’s say our waves are

This tall on this high so and we can we can just start here so I’m gonna use this stroke we’re not gonna we’re just gonna use this as guides okay so I’m making this rectangle here and we’re gonna zoom in and you’ll see why we’re

Gonna use this I’m gonna copy it and do that and it may be an easy way to do this but this is one way to do it just making all these or let’s do that one more time holding all these down okay so we got our grid for example here let’s

Zoom in you know what I’m gonna go back to this text I’m gonna convert this to curve so what that does is it won’t be text anymore it will be an object but it will get rid of that whole circle now that it’s not a circle you know it’s

Just one big object it’s not text I can’t edit it anymore but at least that’s circle that oval that it was on isn’t there to be in the way so now let’s do these as guides I’m gonna start here with my pen tool and I’m gonna just

Pull down actually I want to start here I believe and then we’re gonna click this today don’t don’t oh okay okay whoops sorry we started started here started this one and then go to this one just pulling but halfway and then we want to go to this

One here it’s our guides or pulling halfway click this one whoops you want to click and drag sorry click and drag halfway click and drag halfway click we’re using these lines as guides so you know where to click and the reason for it is if you try to eyeball

This you may get close but having the guides will really help you get it more even to get that even look that way you won’t mess up so much so so what we were doing is kind of like this wavy pattern right just pull here I’ll do a few more nice

Pull up and pull did I end at the top or at the bottom let’s see I think I end at the top so you notice this one isn’t doing it because I forgot to pull it in the beginning so you can just hit this curves want it smooth there look at that

So you can go back and kind of fix it if you want so what I’m looking for is at the top of the curve it’s here these things these handles are going about halfway through it you can kind of eyeball this alright so halfway through that halfway halfway so if you you

Notice it looks pretty even so let’s remove that now again this was supposed to be four points so let’s go back to four point stroke not four or five or so they’re all the same weight right yeah that’s about right all right and then you can stretch it out so let’s say

We want it here but we don’t want it as tall let’s just level it up so you can now that this is one piece you can go up and down I kind of want it look more like that right kind of Center it alright that easy and then we can do is

Three so again I’m holding option and shift option and shift kind of centering that good alright so now that I have this at the lake here I notice you know I could put this kind of close here and maybe take this up so now that these are

Points I’m gonna just take these points out select these delete them and yeah kind of play around with these I’m gonna convert this to a curve and I can ungroup it I can move the L down a little bit of this and you wanna know we’re just kind of making it all fit

Nice right like that and maybe you know maybe it’s here and maybe this one goes out I don’t know maybe it’s not like that then this one’s more like that just around with it all right and then this could be bigger whoops no I’m just eyeballing it here so I like

To have guides to kind of let me know where the left and right are so I can make things bigger or smaller that’s looking too far out a little bit now now this is all about you know just adjusting stuff so maybe that’s their oats maybe that’s their know pretty close I

Kind of messed with it here maybe move this town so that’s it that’s that’s how you doing it what you might want to do once you get it all settled the way you want you’re gonna want to change these like we did with the circle change it to

Expand stroke just so that it is vector but if you if you made this bigger for example let’s say you tried to scale it you see that the strokes not the same so once you get it to a place that you want it to just highlight all of these not

The text or that one just highlight all of those and convert those two this is what I do anyway just so it scales right expand stroke now they’re all shapes make sure your texts are shapes if you want to you know save it to another file

Or bring it over to another file it’s nice to make it a shape so I’m gonna do that here that’s convert to curves so make sure that’s curve curve curves this is a shape so we’re good that’s it and then I’d like to do one that’s on black

So all I do is copy it here put the black background what that’s should be a different sign reverse that in the back select everything here it’s good practice at least I think so to do one that works on a black shirt one that works on a white shirt and that way you

Have to double double for everything so that’s it that’s how you do it that’s how I do my life is bitter at the lake hope this was really helpful to you guys this is more of a minimalistic minimalist style here where you’re drawing shapes but I think
